The Incredible Olympic Games Rio 2016

We are so excited for the Olympics that will start next week in Rio. The opening ceremony will be on the 5th of August in Maracanã. We did an activity in our Portuguese class. It was a timeline of all the Modern Olympic games from Athens 1896 until Rio 2016. All the places were divided among year 4 students each of us did 1,2 or 3 places.  We made powerpoints, posters or papers about each Olympics. We did this because the olympics are close and we know a lot of things about past Olympics.

Have you even made an Olympics timeline? Do you have a favourite Olympics? Tell us all about it in the comments?

Our Emily Carr Inspired Drawings

Last Thursday we started our special art project in class. All year 4 students made it. First we all chose a picture of a Canadian landscape. Then using pencil we drew the landscape with lots of details. Then some of us coloured our landscapes. Some of us did not colour because they had so many details in their drawing. We made these pictures to prepare for the knowledge fair on Saturday. The knowledge fair is a presentation about an artist that we try to imitate and display.  Our artist is Emily Carr. Emily Carr is a Canadian artist who paints aboriginal themed and landscapes paintings.

How you even drawn a lanscape? Which landscape did you draw? Tell us in the comments!

Judo in the Olympics

Judo in the Olympics will start August 6th and finish on the 12th. It will be a lot of fun! Judo in the Olympics will be held at Arena Carioca 2. Sadly none of us have tickets 😦

Judokas is the word for Judo fighters.  Judokas in the Olympics will come for all around the world to compete.  Judo is a healthy sport that is used for: protection from accidents and self-defense.

Some of year 4 students practice judo every week at school. It is cool, healthy and in the olympcs.

If you are going to the olympics what events will you see? We hope someone will get to see the judo events and tell us all about it! Tell us about your plans in the comments.

The Amazing Canada Day Trip

The Canada day trip was really cool. On July 1st we went to Copacabana, a place in Rio, to the Canadian Consulate. The office is in front of the beach volleyball stadium for the olympics.

We went there with year 2 and 3. When we arrived we had a snack. Their served us cookies and juice. There were 4 people from Canada. There was one man named Sanjeev Chowdhury, he quizzed us about Canada and the prices were pins. The pins we extra special even the teachers couldn’t have them! After the quiz we were divided into three groups to take a tour of the office. We were able to see the Sanjeev’s office. There we learnt a lot of things. For example, Canada is the second biggest country by land in the world and 4000 Canadians will travelling to Rio for the olympics.

Have you ever been to a consulate? Which country?

see you next time!

PS did we tell you we are famous?

Our Awesome 100th Day of School

Our 100th day of school was July 7th!! We celebrated in 3 locations of the school. In each location there was an activity to do.  year 1 ,2 ,3  and 4 all participated. We made 3 groups mixing up the classes. The first activity was to make Fruit Loop necklaces by trying to put 100 Fruit Loops on the 100 chart and then on a string. Ms. D and Ms. P made the necklaces with the students in year 1 class.  The second activity was to make a hat with 100 dots painted on it. Mrs. Siqueira and Ms. Flavia made the hats with us in the year 2 class. The third activity was to make a picture with 100 pattern blocks.  Ms. B and Ms. A worked with the student to make the pictures in the playground.

On that day everyone was so happy! We all loved to celebrate out 100th day of school!

How have you celebrated your 100th day of school?

Our Top Secret Art Project

Mother’s Day art was cool we decorated some candle holders and put candles in them.

We used tissue paper and watery glue. Some students choose to use markers and stickers as well to add details.

Everyone made different designs including smiley faces, hearts , letters and other things.

We left them overnight to dry. Once they were dry we wrapped them up with green, pink, purple and yellow cellophane to look like a present.

We sat in groups and all worked on our own presents separately.

The present is beautiful!! three students got to make two from their moms and step-moms!

MOMS: Did you LOVE your awesome presents??

Did you make an awesome present for your mom?

Easter Art

Hello guys!

Today we are writing about Easter art. Before Easter we drew Easter eggs. We used our imagination to make multi-coloured eggs. First we drew some lines to create sections. Each section had a different drawing or patterns.

We worked almost 3 days making our eggs. Then we cut out the eggs out and used tape to hang on the wall. All eggs are very AWESOME! Grade 4 loved making this art project!

Do you like easter eggs?
