Year 4 made the Magic School Bus lap books ( you can read all about them here). Year 4 invited year 3 to answer questions based on our projects. We did this to learn new things and challenge for year 3. We worked for many days to make the projects and then wrote questions for a scavenger hunt for year 3 .
We really liked the part of making the project and reading the book but we prefered the part when year 3 visited us!

On Friday July 15th at 7:45 Carlos Burle visited our school. He visited us at the school court yard. We had an assembly for all of elementary. CarlosBurle is a famous surfer from Pernambuco who surfed with the Rio 2016 Olympic torch!! We were able to ask questions like, How did it feel to make Rio 2016 Olympic history? and When did you start surfing? We all got a chance to hold the Rio 2016 torch!!! It was very unique experience and was heavy ot hold up with one hand. Carlos Burle came to share information with us and help us get ready and excited for the Olympics!
Yesterday we started our ‘What Are You Thinking poem?’ and we will finish today. We all worked in our classroom. All year 4 students wrote a poem. We wrote a lot of poems. Each person wrote one about what is in their head. We wrote this poem to learn that visual poems exist. Visual poems can be any shape and the important part is the image as it tell us a story about the poem.

On Wednesdays if we have earned enough good behaviuor points we get to blog! We blog in our class with three teams of three students and one team of four students. All the students of year four get to blog.
Blogging is when you have 4 teams and each team chooses a topic to write about. The topics are always about something that year 4 has done.
We blog to learn to work in a team and that we can do more together. We practice our English and editing skills. We learn new words. We also blog to share with our family and friends in other classrooms what we are up to in year 4!

The Canada day trip was really cool. On July 1st we went to Copacabana, a place in Rio, to the Canadian Consulate. The office is in front of the beach volleyball stadium for the olympics.
We went there with year 2 and 3. When we arrived we had a snack. Their served us cookies and juice. There were 4 people from Canada. There was one man named Sanjeev Chowdhury, he quizzed us about Canada and the prices were pins. The pins we extra special even the teachers couldn’t have them! After the quiz we were divided into three groups to take a tour of the office. We were able to see the Sanjeev’s office. There we learnt a lot of things. For example, Canada is the second biggest country by land in the world and 4000 Canadians will travelling to Rio for the olympics.
Our 100th day of school was July 7th!! We celebrated in 3 locations of the school. In each location there was an activity to do. year 1 ,2 ,3 and 4 all participated. We made 3 groups mixing up the classes. The first activity was to make Fruit Loop necklaces by trying to put 100 Fruit Loops on the 100 chart and then on a string. Ms. D and Ms. P made the necklaces with the students in year 1 class. The second activity was to make a hat with 100 dots painted on it. Mrs. Siqueira and Ms. Flavia made the hats with us in the year 2 class. The third activity was to make a picture with 100 pattern blocks. Ms. B and Ms. A worked with the student to make the pictures in the playground.
On that day everyone was so happy! We all loved to celebrate out 100th day of school!
The two minute talks are a time during the day that one person talk about something in two minutes. For example, One day I played a joke and each of us had to share a story about a joke we played. When we do two minute talks everyone has a job the presenter and the audience. The audience must always pay attention, stay focused, with empty hands and be silent. After each two minute talk we have questions and comments.
The two minute talk has lots topics, for example? one time I played a joke, 10 things you should know about me, and guess my book.
We started our two minute talks early in the year.
We love two minute talk because it is a good time to get to talk about interesting things.

If you could a choose a topic for a two minute talk what would it be?
One art lesson really interesting was when we did comics strips.
Comic srtrips are comics in strips based on a folktale that each one read. For example some folktales are: Mabela the Clever, Anase the forgetfull guest, Papagayo, A story A story, Monkey and Anasi and the talking melon. Here we have a few on the list,but there more in our class.
We did a few days ago, some kids finished in class, but some did it for homework.
We learned about different folktales from around the world. Some characteristcs of folktales are: morals, most of the characters are animals, are most comon short stories.
That activity was our favorite because we learned new things, we created our own comic trips, we can colour and draw, we have the posibility of knowing new books.
