Amazing Presentation About Canada

Jim was here to present to us about Canada. We saw the presentation and we had a lot of questions. We listened to famous Canadian music and we saw a ‘pow-wow’ festival (it is a festival that is celebrated by aboriginal people or First Nations of Canada).  We saw Canada’s Womens and Mens hockey team win the gold metal from Vancouver 2010. WOO HOO !!  We did this to learn more about Canada.

Thanksgiving Art

Ladies and Gentlemen we did a project that was called Thanksgiving hand art! All of year 4 made one. First we traced our hand on paper, then we wrote on the hand. We used brown, green, orange, yellow and red paper. On each finger we wrote what we were thankful for. An example we were thankful for family, friends, water, food and school. We put our beautiful project ourside on the board and everyone can see our art. A pretty turkey at school. Our hands became the colourful feathers of the turkey.

What are you Thanksgiving traditions to celebrate? Tell us all about in the comments.

Our Emily Carr Inspired Drawings

Last Thursday we started our special art project in class. All year 4 students made it. First we all chose a picture of a Canadian landscape. Then using pencil we drew the landscape with lots of details. Then some of us coloured our landscapes. Some of us did not colour because they had so many details in their drawing. We made these pictures to prepare for the knowledge fair on Saturday. The knowledge fair is a presentation about an artist that we try to imitate and display.  Our artist is Emily Carr. Emily Carr is a Canadian artist who paints aboriginal themed and landscapes paintings.

How you even drawn a lanscape? Which landscape did you draw? Tell us in the comments!

The Amazing Canada Day Trip

The Canada day trip was really cool. On July 1st we went to Copacabana, a place in Rio, to the Canadian Consulate. The office is in front of the beach volleyball stadium for the olympics.

We went there with year 2 and 3. When we arrived we had a snack. Their served us cookies and juice. There were 4 people from Canada. There was one man named Sanjeev Chowdhury, he quizzed us about Canada and the prices were pins. The pins we extra special even the teachers couldn’t have them! After the quiz we were divided into three groups to take a tour of the office. We were able to see the Sanjeev’s office. There we learnt a lot of things. For example, Canada is the second biggest country by land in the world and 4000 Canadians will travelling to Rio for the olympics.

Have you ever been to a consulate? Which country?

see you next time!

PS did we tell you we are famous?

We did a quiz with 27 questions and one bonus! It was very cool! Some of the question were:

1.) What does R.C.M.P. stand for?

2.) Who is the Prime Minister of Canada?

3.) How many cities in Ontario?

4.) How many territories and provinces can you name?

The exciting bonus was Where is Mrs. Siqueira from?

Science Weather Infograph Posters

Hi everyone,

Today we are talking about weather infographs!!

Our inforgraphs are about weather. We all wrote about different countries and cities. Our infographs showed graphs of the temperature and other informations. We can use infographs to show a lot of information. For example some of the cities we learnt about were: New York, Los Angeles, Natal, Calgary, Milan, Dubai, Tokyo, Toronto, Montreal, Rome, Boston and Orlando.

We learnt very interesting weather facts about the cities. For example, some cities have hurricanes, tornadoes, snow and Chinook winds.

We made the posters at home and we presented in class.

Have you ever done an infograph?

Our camera died after our first presenter!

Our First Pen Pal Letters

About two weeks ago we received out pen pal letter and we were so EXCITED! Our letters came all the way from Surrey, BC, CANADA! Our class was crazy!! We wanted to read our letter in that exact moment. We did activities together to brainstorm what to write about us, our school and questions to ask. In class we did drafts in our English notebooks to write everything correctly. Our pen pals are ages 10, 11 and 12 years old. Their names are very different for us, we think they feel the same about our names.
