Amazing Presentation About Canada

Jim was here to present to us about Canada. We saw the presentation and we had a lot of questions. We listened to famous Canadian music and we saw a ‘pow-wow’ festival (it is a festival that is celebrated by aboriginal people or First Nations of Canada).  We saw Canada’s Womens and Mens hockey team win the gold metal from Vancouver 2010. WOO HOO !!  We did this to learn more about Canada.

Special Project

We made this special project over the last few weeks. The Magic School Bus project was made in year 4 class. All the students of year 4 class worked hard on the MSB projects.

Each student chose a MSB chapter book. We each read our books over one week, some students finished early. On the project we had to put 15 booklets sharing information about the book topic.

We did the projects to learn about many different topics. We are also going to use the projects for a scavenger hunt with year 3.

The Incredible Olympic Games Rio 2016

We are so excited for the Olympics that will start next week in Rio. The opening ceremony will be on the 5th of August in Maracanã. We did an activity in our Portuguese class. It was a timeline of all the Modern Olympic games from Athens 1896 until Rio 2016. All the places were divided among year 4 students each of us did 1,2 or 3 places.  We made powerpoints, posters or papers about each Olympics. We did this because the olympics are close and we know a lot of things about past Olympics.

Have you even made an Olympics timeline? Do you have a favourite Olympics? Tell us all about it in the comments?

Our Special Volleyball and Basketball Player Visit

Yesterday after the assembly in the court yard at school we had two very special guests Camilinha Saldanha and Nicolas Pairone. Camilinha is a volleyball player and Nicolas plays basketball. Camilinha talked about her early experience playing volleyball and her passion for playing. She also showed us some of her metals. Nicolas talked about basketball! His experience playing with some NBA players and his team in Italy. We were lucky enough to have this visit because the Olympics are coming!! Rio 2016 starts next week and world class athletes are arriving everyday!

What Are You Thinking About???

Yesterday we started our ‘What Are You Thinking poem?’ and we will finish today.  We all worked in our classroom. All year 4 students wrote a poem. We wrote a lot of poems. Each person wrote one about what is in their head. We wrote this poem to learn that visual poems exist. Visual poems can be any shape and the important part is the image as it tell us a story about the poem.

Our Super Awesome Mega Blog!!

On Wednesdays if we have earned enough good behaviuor points we get to blog! We blog in our class with three teams of three students and one team of four students. All the students of year four get to blog.

Blogging is when you have 4 teams and each team chooses a topic to write about. The topics are always about something that year 4 has done.

We blog to learn to work in a team and that we can do more together. We practice our English and editing skills. We learn new words. We also blog to share with our family and friends in other classrooms what we are up to in year 4!

The Magic World of Two Minute Talks

The two minute talks are a time during the day that one person talk about something in two minutes.  For example, One day I played a joke and each of us had to share a story about a joke we played. When we do two minute talks everyone has a job the presenter and the audience. The audience must always pay attention, stay focused, with empty hands and be silent. After each two minute talk we have questions and comments.

The two minute talk has lots topics, for example? one time I played a joke, 10 things you should know about me, and guess my book.

We started our two minute talks early in the year.

We love two minute talk because it is a good time to get to talk about interesting things.

Our Storyboards

Hello,

We are starting to write our own stories! Our first step was to make storyboard.

To make a storyboard you need to:

1.) Get a white paper

2.) Fold the paper like a “hot dog” then 2 “hamburger” folds.

3.) Open up the paper and number each square. You should have 8 squares.

4.) Then you start to build your story. Draw pictures of the beginning, middle and end of the story. Don’t forget the details about the problem and solution.

5.) Finally, doublecheck your characters and setting are well developed with lots of details.

6.) Once you have all this finished you are ready to write the story!!

This is how we do! -Katy Perry

How do you do your storyboards?

Setting Maps

Hello guys,

On April 27th we did an activity called setting maps. Setting maps is a paper thats is divided in 3 parts the time, the place and the environment. The book is part of the setting map, it can be any book you want.

The name of the book is In the Tree House. We had to write about the environment. The environment of our book was a neighbourhood where the power went out. The setting time of our book was at night and during summer. The time tells about the seasons and the time. The place where our book took place was in a tree house.

We worked very hard to include ALL the details we could. It was fun and AWESOME!

What was your favourite book setting? From which book?

Science Weather Infograph Posters

Hi everyone,

Today we are talking about weather infographs!!

Our inforgraphs are about weather. We all wrote about different countries and cities. Our infographs showed graphs of the temperature and other informations. We can use infographs to show a lot of information. For example some of the cities we learnt about were: New York, Los Angeles, Natal, Calgary, Milan, Dubai, Tokyo, Toronto, Montreal, Rome, Boston and Orlando.

We learnt very interesting weather facts about the cities. For example, some cities have hurricanes, tornadoes, snow and Chinook winds.

We made the posters at home and we presented in class.

Have you ever done an infograph?
