Super Camp Paiol

Eight students from year 4 and two students from year 3 and Maple Bear Niterói year 4 through year 9 went to camp Paiol Grande in São Paulo. We went to Paiol to have fun and meet new friends.

We did a lot of fun activities including: crawled through the mud, slacklined over the river, completed a obstacle course and played a game called Medusa that was like treasure hunt at night.

We went a waterfall that was freezing cold water, it took us 45 minutes hiking to get there!

We completed a treasure hunt in 6 different groups and when we found the treasure it was a Paiol T-shirt.

Amazing Presentation About Canada

Jim was here to present to us about Canada. We saw the presentation and we had a lot of questions. We listened to famous Canadian music and we saw a ‘pow-wow’ festival (it is a festival that is celebrated by aboriginal people or First Nations of Canada).  We saw Canada’s Womens and Mens hockey team win the gold metal from Vancouver 2010. WOO HOO !!  We did this to learn more about Canada.

Magic School Bus Scavenger Hunt with Year 3

Year 4 made the Magic School Bus lap books ( you can read all about them here). Year 4 invited year 3 to answer questions based on our projects. We did this to learn new things and challenge for year 3. We worked for many days to make the projects and then wrote questions for a scavenger hunt for year 3 .

We really liked the part of making the project and reading the book but we prefered the part when year 3 visited us!

-João Pedro, Francisco, Thiago and Henrique

How many Magic School Bus Books have you read? Which ones? Tell us in the coments.

Thanksgiving Art

Ladies and Gentlemen we did a project that was called Thanksgiving hand art! All of year 4 made one. First we traced our hand on paper, then we wrote on the hand. We used brown, green, orange, yellow and red paper. On each finger we wrote what we were thankful for. An example we were thankful for family, friends, water, food and school. We put our beautiful project ourside on the board and everyone can see our art. A pretty turkey at school. Our hands became the colourful feathers of the turkey.

What are you Thanksgiving traditions to celebrate? Tell us all about in the comments.

Carlos Burle’s Visit

On Friday July 15th at 7:45 Carlos Burle visited our school. He visited us at the school court yard. We had an assembly for all of elementary. CarlosBurle is a famous surfer from Pernambuco who surfed with the Rio 2016 Olympic torch!! We were able to ask questions like, How did it feel to make Rio 2016 Olympic history? and When did you start surfing? We all got a chance to hold the Rio 2016 torch!!! It was very unique experience and was heavy ot hold up with one hand.  Carlos Burle came to share information with us and help us get ready and excited for the Olympics!

Our Awesome 100th Day of School

Our 100th day of school was July 7th!! We celebrated in 3 locations of the school. In each location there was an activity to do.  year 1 ,2 ,3  and 4 all participated. We made 3 groups mixing up the classes. The first activity was to make Fruit Loop necklaces by trying to put 100 Fruit Loops on the 100 chart and then on a string. Ms. D and Ms. P made the necklaces with the students in year 1 class.  The second activity was to make a hat with 100 dots painted on it. Mrs. Siqueira and Ms. Flavia made the hats with us in the year 2 class. The third activity was to make a picture with 100 pattern blocks.  Ms. B and Ms. A worked with the student to make the pictures in the playground.

On that day everyone was so happy! We all loved to celebrate out 100th day of school!

How have you celebrated your 100th day of school?

Connecting With Other Schools

The idea is to connected with other school to practice our English and learn about places around the world.  We have used skype for many different things. Our first skype meeting was with a school in Buenos Aires. We skyped with them to learn more about their weather. It was all a part of our global project Same Day in March.

Our second skype was early May with a school in Delaware, United States of America. We did a mystery skype with them! A mystery skype is when we don’t know where they are and we need to make yes or no questions to figure out where they are. Everyone had an important job to do!

Our third skype date was just last week! We skyped with a Maple Bear Elementary school in São Paulo. Their class was year 4 too!  We learnt so many cool things from them and about them. We learnt that we have more in common then we expected.

We have been skyping to learn about places around the world! We have learnt that one day in 2007 Buenos Aires had SNOW!!! They have much colder weather than us. We learnt that Delaware has different weather than us, they have hurricanes! The class in Delaware had already mystery skyped with over 70 classes and they have a blog too. We had to learn LOTS of geography terms to be able to ask our questions. Some of the words we learnt were: Northern hemisphere, Southern hemisphere, East, West, North, South ect.

We love it as we get to learn things we didn’t know before, practice our English with lots of new students and most of all it is awesome!!

St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s day was very fun!! We played a very cool game. Everyone was wearing GREEN!! Mrs. Siqueira lived in Ireland for one year and she showed us some of her photos for the game. The game was like this: there are two teams. Team one and team two. First, Mrs. Siqueira put one photo on the SMART board and one person from each team had to write adjectives about the picture. We lost a point of we wrote a non-adjective word. If both teams wrote the same word no one got a point. The team that had the most points won!!

Have you even played this game before? How do you celebrate St. Patrick’s day?

The KEY to friendship

After our first math assessment on Thursday we took the afternoon to refocus on friendship and art! As we have been reading and talking about how to be a good friend (and a bad one) so we set out to identify the KEYS to friendship! We realized friendships need everything from craziness to communication and even politeness!! After working hard our room has gotten and little bit friendlier and a lot more colourful!

What is your key to friendship?
